Double-Diffusion Treatment Study

Colorado State Forest Service, Tim Reader, Durango 970-247-5250

Project involved series of workshops to expose local industry toDouble-Diffusion, on-site experiments with several mills, EPA research, andmarket research. Work was completed and report finalized in early 2001.

Interest continues to grow in this process. Tim Reader continues to work withinterested parties.

2000

Forest Restoration Enterprises and Partnerships

This project focused on developing a partnership focused on forestrestoration in the Sangre de Cristo region as well as business planning for theconvergence of two forestry related businesses.

The project has not been completed. An extension of the project has beengranted through March 2002.

Double Diffusion Highway and Campground Structures

This effort was a continuation of the marketing aspects of double diffusion.The process has proven effective and industry is eager to utilize thetechnology. Currently, barriers exist with the EPA in terms of labeling for thepreservatives. This project is complete other than follow-up with EPA. A posterwill be presented at Small Wood 2002.

Testing Mechanical Properties of Wood 970-491-4066

Project looked at the mechanical properties of white fir and ponderosa pine.Final report soon out.

Economic Feasibility of Edge Gluing Random Width Materials

Painted Sky RC&D and Delta timber, Eric Sorensen, Delta 970-874-0849

Expansion of an existing aspen mill. Project has not been completed to datedue to confusion between RC&D and mill owner. Mill has continued to pursuethe new product line and is in the process of leasing space to begin production.

Marketing and Utilization Study for Roto-Chopper

Stoner Top, Dolores CO 870-882-2350

Ragland Family purchased a Roto-Chopper, designed to create high qualitymulch products from small diameter material, and created a test play ground,conducted a regional workshop on the equipment, and engaged in market researchand product development.

Project was complete in 2001. A contract has been secured to sell play groundmulch with Softfall Inc.
